We left Schackendorf at around 10.30am and headed to Denmark. We couldn’t decide if we should take the ferries back again or not. But the weather wasn’t good so we shunned the idea of taking the ferries. We drove to Odense in Denmark but it took long before we reached the place cos Leif avoided the heavy traffic in the motorway so he drove to smaller roads instead.

From Odense, we proceeded to Copenhagen and took the Oresunds Bridge. I love being on this bridge cos it’s like driving on the water. Oresunds Bridge connects Copenhagen, Denmark and Malmo, Sweden. It’s a tunnel first before reaching the bridge and I took a video from the tunnel to the bridge and until we reached Malmo. I’ll upload the video later. It was actually our third time to drive on the Oresunds Bridge.

Entering Oresunds Tunnel

Again, it’s a long drive from Malmo to Gothenburg. Hubby’s been driving from 10am so I took over to drive from Halmstad to Kungsbacka, of course with the “driving lesson” sign on the back of the car. I drove for almost two hours. And we finally reached home at around 9pm.

It’s a rainy day again and it’s the day we decided to leave Berlin. Leif had actually asked at the reception if we could extend our stay over the weekend but the room was already booked by other visitors. There wasn’t even available rooms in any categories.

We went down to have breakfast, but we noticed the difference of this day from the other days. It was so crowded in the restaurant that we had to wait before we could get a table. It’s a Friday so it means many who were staying over the weekend. After breakfast, we packed our things and left Berlin at around 11.30am.

It was a long drive and the rain was pouring hard so we stayed in a hotel by the motorway. The place is called Schackendorf Rest House. It was pretty cheap and the room was quite big.

It was a good day and I was feeling much better. After breakfast, we took a taxi to Brandenburg Gate. There were lots of tourists flocking around a man in somewhat military uniform portraying to be a guard. Standing on the east side, there used to be a so called “baby wall” here separating from the west side of the gate. I enjoyed watching the guy as some tourists posed with him. He actually caught my eyes looking at him then he gave a sign for me to come over and take a picture with him. But I was too shy to pose in front of the many spectators, lol! Just check the pictures here.

The best part of the day was the visit to Madame Tussauds Wax Museum. It’s just near Brandenburg Gate so we walked. We were surprised about how long the queau was! But what the heck, we stood anyway. We stood in queau around 11am and finally got inside at half past 12 noon. It was fun to see the wax figure of prominent personalities, from politics, musicians and mathematicians to hollywood actors. I knew there’s one in London but I didn’t know there is also here in Berlin and other places. In fact, this Madamme Tussauds in Berlin has just opened about two weeks ago.

Just admiring the beauty of Nicole Kidman

Another important thing that we’ve done this day was to take a look on Berlin Wall and what remained after they dismantled it in 1989. I’m glad I’ve got the chance to see and touch it, hehee!

The day wasn’t a good day for us here. Aside from the rain in the morning, I suffered from stomach ache the night before that I couldn’t get up for the breakfast. I was feeling weak and lacking sleep. We stayed in bed a little longer. I started feeling good after taking a shower so we went down and ate afternoon breakfast, hahaa! Leif had brunch. But I didn’t have appetite on food at all so I took a toast and butter and tea. And even those couldn’t get in my stomach. I told hubby that we should go back to the room and have more rest instead. Then we went out again at about 6pm. It was raining so we borrowed an umbrella from the hotel. The we took a walk along Unter Den Linden till we reached Brandenburg Gate. I felt better after the walk, but we couldn’t walk back to the hotel cos it was long so we took a taxi to where the Checkpoint Charlie is. It’s where the allies was stationed when the city was divided from the east and west. The allies, of course, was on the west side. The east had the strongest support from the Soviet then. But now they’ve preserved the Checkpoint Charlie as a tourist attraction and even do a reenactment of how it was before.

As usual, ate breakfast at around 9am. The weather was bright and good for taking photographs. After breakfast, we walked along Alexander Plats and took pictures of the Berlin Cathedral. Then we took a “tricycle” ride to Media Markt, an electronic store, to buy a cable for the camera. It’s fun riding the two-passenger tricycle but it was scary cos we have to pass the road with buses and other vehicles.

Then we went back to the hotel and left the cable and went out again. This time we took a taxi to the west side to see that shopping mall, Kadewe. It’s not allowed to take pictures inside the mall. We looked on the electronics dept and see what they’ve got. Then we looked around before taking a taxi back to the hotel. We didn’t drive our car since the day we came here cos it’s hard to find a parking space. It’s easier to go to the tourists spots with a taxi or if it’s not far from the hotel, we just take a walk. We took so many pictures and I posted them in the Album page instead for easy browsing.

Lunch at the hotel’s restaurant

This was a very busy day for us. Two days is not enough to visit all the historical tourist attractions here so we decided to stay for a couple of days more. I’ve learned the history of this city when I was in school in Davao and it’s exciting to be here in once a separated city. This would be the longest stay we’ve spent in a city. Normally, we just stay one to two days and then drive further.
