There were thousands of people waiting for the New Year, too along Champs Elyseés down to Place de la Concorde. But unfortunately, we were a bit disappointed because of the absence of fireworks display. It’s just this year that the government prohibits using firecrackers and fireworks display. We were not so lucky in this occasion. However, the lights of the city, especially that of Eiffel Tower, are a sight wonderful that no tourists wouldn’t appreciate. Anyhow, it was a peaceful New Year celebration despite the presence of 3,000 police in surveillance in case of tumult.

It had been a busy day today not only for Parisians but for tourists as well. Everybody’s expecting for the big event especially for the countdown to 2009. The large crowd gathered by the Eiffel Tower and Champs Elysees as early as 5pm. And it’s at this hour when the marvelous lights on the streets were turned on. As for hubby Leif and me, we took some pictures by the Champs before we headed to Hotel Concorde La Fayette. It was impossible to be near the Eiffel Tower by this hour, too.

While waiting for our car and chauffeur to drive us to where we could have the best view of the event (hahaa! kidding!). Hubby Leif and I love the bar here in Hotel Concorde La Fayette. We just had our dinner and we’re waiting until 10.30pm before we went around to find a better spot where we could witness the coming of the New Year.

Our flight from Gothenburg was delayed due to late arrival of Air France for some reasons. Instead of leaving 12.50pm, we left at around 1:20pm instead. Our first time to fly in a winter and I thought it would be more colder up in the plane but it wasn’t. This is actually our second time to visit Paris, the first was six years ago in late summertime. Anyway, when we arrived in Paris at almost 4pm, it was snowing a little bit. However, the temperature is almost like in Gothenburg though it feels warmer here. It was quite a long ride from the airport to hotel Le Meridien in downtown Paris. It’s the same name of the hotel we stayed in Singapore. I will tell more of this hotel later cos I’m so sleepy to write more now.
